Bob MacKenzie's Band

Saturday, October 22 at 7:30pm

Bob Mackenzie's Band offers a solid selection of blues classics, jump, swing, and rhythm & blues. This combo brings it home with tunes that will get you dancing, or simply let you enjoy the night watching and listening while the band takes you back through decades of great music.

Celebrating American Roots Music and many traditions from Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, and Kansas City, Bob Mackenzie's Band counts among major influences T-Bone Walker, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, William Clarke, Little Walter Jacobs, Louis Jordan, Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino, Roomful of Blues, Big Joe Turner, BB King, and on and on!

This band consists of the following members: David Bain (keyboard, vocals), John Falk (guitar, vocals), Brad Sourdiffe (bass), and John Wallace (drums). These solid musicians each represent a lifetime of active musicality with many professional associations.

Johnny Falk and David Bain also play with harmonica showman Bob Stannard and Those Dangerous Bluesmen. Falk has been a slave to the blues guitar for more than three decades. His influences span the distance from Muddy Waters to Jimi Hendrix; Robert Johnson to Johnny Winter. A lover of many musical styles including bluegrass, Celtic and straight-up rock and roll, Falk finds musical inspiration in all of it.

Bain co-founded Conqueror Root, a roots quartet with Dennis Willmott (of Left Eye Jump), Dwight Ritcher (Dwight & Nicole; the Dwight Ritcher Band), and “Kenny B” Bleckley (Luther Johnson Blues Band), and he co-founded a group behind belting songstress Mimi Bain, his daughter. His other musical associations go back to his college days in Boston when he played piano in the powerhouse James Montgomery Band, played with other teenaged aspirants like Bonnie Raitt, Bob Margolin, Tom Principato, Rosey Rosenblatt, and Sarah Brown, and the more established local legends Bill Colwell and Chicago Bob Nelson; he also backed John Lee Hooker and T-Bone Walker, among others, when they came to town, and did frequent studio session work.

Brad Sourdiffe brings a lifetime of playing every time he steps on the bandstand, and is a mainstay of the popular 60s-70s tribute band, Mellow Yellow, known for their renditions of the undying songs of the era, performed in clubs, theaters, and the famous Moody Blues' Nostalgic Rock Cruises.

John Wallace is also the driving rhythm force behind The Horse Traders (featuring dynamic vocalist Deb Brisson). His solid gold musical associations go way back, also.

Bob Mackenzie's Band, named for the harmonica/vocalist who is on hiatus, has rocked and socked clubs, wedding and community parties, and municipal celebrations all over Vermont, and anchored the gazebo stage at the last four Labor Day picnics on the Middlebury Town Green hosted by VT Sen. Bernie Sanders.
