Brandon Music

Caroline Cotter & Emily Mure

Saturday, May 20 at 7:30pm

Two nationally known singer-songwriters come together to perform in Brandon, Vermont. With a captivating soprano voice and award-winning songwriting, Caroline Cotter's songs take you from an intimate Parisian salon to the mountains of Colorado and into the depths of the human heart. A classically trained oboist, Emily Mure's willingness to be vulnerable and honest will pull you in and allow you the same. Her lyrical melodies and voice take on a similar dark and reedy quality to that of her first instrument.

The musicians will be crossing paths in Brandon after months of touring solo; Cotter coming from the west after a three month national tour, and Mure from the east after a tour throughout Ireland. The two singer-songwriters will share the stage performing original material from their most recently released albums as well as new material from albums to be released this fall.

Mure, a NYC native, got her start as a singer-songwriter busking on the streets of Ireland. She has since shared the stage with notable musicians such as Darlingside, Joe Crookston, The Bones of J.R. Jones and The Duhks. Her songwriting has been recognized in prestigious national competitions (Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival) and has been featured on networks including NBC, ABC and PBS. Mure's music will make you “want to go off into a quiet place and to be sure you capture each and every note” (No Depression).

She has two full-length albums and a few singles, including a recently released cover of Elliott Smith's ‘ Between The Bars',  and is currently working on her third studio album at Dimension Sound Studios in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. It is scheduled to be released later this year.

Having lived, worked, and traveled all over the world, including such diverse places as Thailand, Barcelona, Peru, and Portugal, Cotter's music bears the marks of a storyteller with a unique set of tales to tell.

Cotter's first national release, “Dreaming as I Do”, which reached #5 on the Folk DJ charts, is both playful and profound. Since the album's release, she has been on the road touring non-stop throughout the US and Europe, playing over 200 shows a year in venues from Club Passim in Boston, MA to the Alberta Rose Theater in Portland, Oregon. She has shared the stage with Loudon Wainwright III, David Wilcox, and Dan Bern, played festivals including 30A Songwriters Festival in Florida, Joe Val Bluegrass Festival in Boston, Al Ras Festival in Barcelona, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in New York, and was showcased at the Northeastern Regional Folk Alliance Conference as well as the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference.

This event is a part of Vermont Arts 2017, celebrating arts in Vermont.
