Hiroya Tsukamoto

Friday, June 16 at 7:30pm

Hiroya Tsukamoto is a one-of-a-kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. He takes audiences on an innovative, impressionistic journey filled with earthy, organic soundscapes that impart a mood of peace and tranquility. Tsukamoto “plays with fluid mastery, pristine tone, and great warmth”, according to Celine Keating of Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

Tsukamoto acquires musical inspiration from many different cultures. His mother studied Spanish – something he pursued himself in college – and the family had connections to Mexico, traveling there often. After receiving a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, he formed a band with musicians from other continents, immersing himself in a variety of musical cultures, including America's. The group, called Interoceanico, included Latin Grammy nominee and Colombian singer, Marta Gomez, has frequented the Blue Note in New York City, and has released three records: The Other Side of the World, Confluencia and Where the River Shines.

"His music is earthy, organic and an amalgam of elements imported from diverse genres" – The Groove

Audience members will be mesmerized; he plays with an effortless skill on the guitar and a repertoire that will have you traveling the world, not to mention experiencing new sounds with his own compositions.

Tsukamoto headlines concerts throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. As a solo artist, he has released two albums (Heartland and Places) with the 333 Discs record label. H e has also performed and appeared on major international television stations in Japan and Korea.
